Residents of Freetown can once again access running water, as the Guma Valley Water Company (GVWC) has announced the successful completion of critical maintenance work on its transmission pipelines.

The repairs, which necessitated a 12-hour water shutdown, have been completed ahead of schedule, allowing for the restoration of supply.

The GVWC had previously issued a press release on March 17, 2025, informing the public of an essential shutdown scheduled for Monday, March 17th, from 12:00 PM to Tuesday, March 18th, 12:00 AM.

This shutdown was required to address urgent repairs on the transmission pipeline at several key locations, including Juba, Mambo Village, Banga Farm (Mile 13), and Mile 13 Village.

According to a subsequent announcement released today, March 18th, the maintenance work has been successfully concluded. The GVWC has confirmed that water supply to Freetown has been restored in accordance with the existing Tuesday rationing schedule.

“Guma Valley Water Company is pleased to inform the general public that maintenance work on the transmission pipeline… have been completed,” stated the company’s management in a press release. The affected repairs included work on 18-inch air valves and 28-inch transmission pipelines, vital for maintaining the flow of water to the capital.

The GVWC management expressed their gratitude to the residents of Freetown for their patience and understanding during the temporary outage.
