The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with Sierra Leone following a high-level meeting between its Director of Asia, Africa and the Pacific Political and Negotiations Affairs, Al-Ibrahim Hussain Omar, and Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Mohammed Barrie, in Riyadh.

The courtesy visit, held at the Sierra Leone Embassy on Monday, formed part of ongoing efforts to deepen relations between the GCC and Sierra Leone and explore new areas of partnership.

During the meeting, Ambassador Barrie welcomed the GCC delegation and highlighted Sierra Leone’s investment opportunities under President Julius Maada Bio’s Big Five Game Changers agenda. He said the country remains open for business and expressed the embassy’s readiness to work closely with the GCC to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

The Ambassador also designated Sierra Leone’s Deputy Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Abdul Aziz Turay, as the embassy’s focal point for engagement with the GCC, underscoring the importance of fostering closer relations with the six-member regional bloc.

Speaking during the meeting, GCC Director Al-Ibrahim Hussain Omar commended the embassy for its hospitality and reaffirmed the Council’s growing engagement across Africa. He noted that the GCC continues to support development on the continent through foreign direct investment, infrastructure financing, agriculture and the development of critical minerals.

Mr Omar expressed optimism about expanding cooperation with Sierra Leone, saying the GCC looks forward to building a stronger partnership that will promote mutual economic growth and investment opportunities.

Deputy Ambassador Abdul Aziz Turay also welcomed the initiative, stating that the Sierra Leone Mission is committed to developing a productive relationship with the GCC while showcasing the country’s vast economic and investment potential.

The meeting reflects the GCC’s continued interest in broadening its partnerships with African countries and enhancing economic and diplomatic cooperation with Sierra Leone.
