Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs has launched its 2025 Gender Accountability Framework Report on August 18, 2026, placing greater emphasis on tracking progress toward gender equality and women’s empowerment.
The ministry said the report is intended to strengthen transparency and accountability by translating gender-related commitments into measurable actions and results.

The launch in Freetown brought together representatives from government ministries, departments and agencies, development partners, United Nations agencies and ECOWAS, as well as ministers and delegates from Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to the ministry’s Communications Unit.
In her opening remarks, the minister thanked President Julius Maada Bio for what she described as his leadership and commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment, particularly through the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) Act 2022.

She described the Gender Accountability Framework as a mechanism for moving beyond policy commitments toward measurable implementation and lasting outcomes.
The framework calls for shared responsibility among government institutions, Parliament, civil society, development partners, communities and citizens in advancing gender equality and accountability, the ministry said.

The ministry said the framework is also intended to support efforts to empower women and girls, promote equality and contribute to a more inclusive and prosperous Sierra Leone.
The launch underscores the government’s continued focus on linking gender policies with accountability and measurable progress, with the ministry and its partners pledging to strengthen implementation and results.
