The Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs has officially opened a three-day National Capacity-Building Workshop for stakeholders and Women, Peace and Security (WPS) focal points on the Continental Results Framework (CRF) for monitoring and reporting on the Women, Peace and Security Agenda.

The workshop, jointly organised by the ECOWAS Commission’s Department of Humanitarian and Social Affairs and the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs, aims to strengthen national capacity, improve data collection, enhance coordination, and promote evidence-based reporting on commitments to women’s participation in peace and security processes.

In her keynote address, the Minister thanked the ECOWAS Commission, the European Union, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, and GIZ for their support in advancing the WPS Agenda across the region.

She highlighted Sierra Leone’s progress, including the adoption of National Action Plans on United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325, the enactment of the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Act, and the Abolition of Child Marriage Act. However, she stressed that sustained implementation, effective monitoring, and stronger collaboration among institutions remain critical to achieving lasting results.

The Minister urged participants to use the workshop as an opportunity to strengthen inter-agency cooperation and embrace the Continental Results Framework as a strategic tool for accountability, measuring progress, and ensuring that women and girls remain central to peacebuilding and sustainable development.

The workshop is expected to enhance Sierra Leone’s approach to monitoring and reporting on the Women, Peace and Security Agenda in line with regional and continental commitments.
