The Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) had started the installation of guardrails in one of the busy streets in the Municipality of Freetown, Sani Abacha Street.

Sani Abacha Street known to many as Abacha Street is the most busy business place in the Eastern part of Freetown. It is a densely populated shopping area in Freetown. In Dec. 2012, Sierra Leone Road Transport Authority launched a project to clear and maintain free flow of traffic. The essence of this project was to  improve road safety and reduce congestion.

Despite several operations by named ‘operation push back’, street sellers had proved reluctant to adhere to the instructions. This made the regulatory road safety body to request the assistance of the Sierra Leone Police, metropolitan officers and others to enforce the exercise.

It has been years since 2012 and many operations by the FCC presently had proven not to be guarantee as market stalls owners reluctantly bring their business to the street to congest the street and cause traffic.

In this new direction of His Excellence Brigadier Julius Maada Bio (Rtd), the SLRA was spotted drilling holes on the street of Sani Abacha to put guardrails to clear and maintain free flow of traffic.

This will be a huge challenge to many business owners at Abacha as this project will force them to leave the street into somewhere else to do their daily market routines.

This is in efforts to maintain the free flow of traffic along the usually busy business area.
