A delegation from Guinea, including officials from the Ministry of Education and Plan International, conducted a study exchange visit to Sierra Leone’s School Feeding Programme last week as part of Guinea’s preparations to launch a national school feeding initiative.
The delegation observed the implementation of Sierra Leone’s Integrated Homegrown School Feeding Programme to gain practical insights into operations and the meal model served to pupils in primary schools nationwide.
The exchange also provided a platform for knowledge sharing, peer learning, and the exchange of best practices between the two countries.
As part of the visit, the delegation toured Plan International Sierra Leone’s operational districts of Port Loko and Moyamba, where they examined school feeding facilities, implementation procedures, and programme operations on the ground.
Officials said the field visits enabled the team to better understand the systems, processes, and successes of the programme while identifying lessons that could be adapted to strengthen similar interventions in Guinea.
The visit concluded with a debriefing session at the School Feeding Secretariat in Freetown, focusing on reflections from key observations, lessons learned, and ways to enhance collaboration and improve school feeding programmes in both countries.
