The Institute for Governance Reform (IGR) has been reappointed as Afrobarometer’s National Partner for Sierra Leone for the next three survey rounds following a competitive selection process.
The renewed partnership will see IGR continue leading Afrobarometer surveys in the country, gathering citizens’ views on democracy, governance, accountability, public services and quality of life. Afrobarometer CEO Joseph Asunka said the reappointment followed a rigorous evaluation in which IGR emerged as the successful candidate.
Afrobarometer, a pan-African, non-partisan public opinion research network established in 1999, conducts face-to-face interviews in respondents’ preferred languages to provide reliable data that informs governments, civil society, researchers and development partners.
IGR previously implemented Sierra Leone’s Round 10 Afrobarometer survey, interviewing 1,200 adults between March and April 2025. The findings offered insights into public perceptions of democracy, government performance, social conditions and public institutions, supporting evidence-based discussions on governance and development.
IGR said preparations have begun for the upcoming survey rounds and thanked Afrobarometer, government institutions, the media, civil society organisations, political parties and international partners for their continued support. The surveys will continue under the technical supervision of the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), Afrobarometer’s Core Partner for Anglophone West and North Africa.
The reappointment ensures Sierra Leone remains part of Afrobarometer’s continental research network, allowing citizens’ voices to continue contributing to discussions on governance, democracy and national development through independent public opinion research.
