The Minister of Internal Affairs, AIG (Rtd.) Morie Lengor Esq., has met with an assessment team from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration on migration and anti-trafficking initiatives.

The delegation, which included representatives from Nigeria, was led by members of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons (ATIP) Agency.

The purpose of the engagement was to brief the Minister on the roles and responsibilities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the implementation of Sierra Leone’s Demand-Driven Facility (DDF) Project, while also exploring avenues for partnership and support.

Welcoming the team, Minister Lengor highlighted the functions of the Ministry’s constituent agencies and departments in enhancing national security. He reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with local and international partners to achieve the Ministry’s vision of ensuring a safe and secure Sierra Leone.

The Minister emphasized collaboration as a key pillar for the successful implementation of the project, noting that intelligence-driven strategies would remain central to its execution. He further reiterated the Ministry’s dedication to adopting a forward-looking approach in delivering the project’s objectives.

Providing an overview of the DDF Project, the Chief Executive Officer of the Anti-Trafficking Agency, Dehunge Shiaka, stated that the initiative seeks to strengthen institutional capacity through the development of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and a digitalized data platform.

He explained that these measures are intended to enhance preventive mechanisms in border management, combat human trafficking, and improve coordination among neighbouring communities within the framework of the SOP.

The meeting concluded with the identification of clear objectives and strategic goals, including plans to conduct a series of training sessions for partner institutions and the rollout of a nationwide public education campaign to support the effective implementation of the project.
