Sierra Leone’s Chief Justice, His Lordship Justice Komba Kamanda, on Saturday joined hundreds of mourners at the burial of the late Justice Dr. Abou Bhakarr Binneh-Kamara, who passed away earlier this week at the age of 48.
The burial took place at the Congo Town Cemetery in Freetown, shortly after Janaza prayers were held at the Hezbulla Mosque. The Chief Justice was accompanied by several senior members of the judiciary, including ECOWAS Court Judge, Justice Sengu Mohamed Koroma.
Justice Binneh-Kamara, who was recently appointed to the Court of Appeal, was also serving as Dean of the Faculty of Law at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone. His career spanned years of public service as a legal educator and judge.
Speaking to the press, Chief Justice Kamanda described the late judge as “a respected legal mind” and “a man who gave his life to the bench and the classroom.” He noted that Justice Binneh-Kamara’s elevation to the Court of Appeal was based on merit, dedication, and his deep understanding of the law.
“He was a humble man, and his death is a tremendous loss to the Judiciary and to legal education in Sierra Leone,” Kamanda added.
The Judiciary has announced plans to hold a special court session in his memory on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at the Main Law Courts Building in Freetown.
Justice Binneh-Kamara’s death on Tuesday, July 15, shocked many across the legal community, with tributes pouring in from colleagues, former students, and members of the public.
