The Minister of Planning and Economic Development of Sierra Leone, Madam Kenyeh Barlay, has expressed her gratitude towards the Government of Timor-Leste for their warm reception during the high-level g7+ meeting held in Dili.
At an official welcome event, Madam Barlay thanked His Excellency Benedito Freitas, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Timor-Leste, and the Secretary-General of the g7+, Hélder da Costa, highlighting their supportive roles.
“This is my first time in Dili, and I am deeply moved by the warmth and welcome extended by the country of Timor-Leste, by the Timorese people, and by the spirit of hospitality that surrounds us on this historic occasion,” she stated, showcasing her appreciation for the local culture and community.
The Minister emphasized the strong connection shared among g7+ member nations, referring to the organization as “more than just an organization, we are a family of nations who have walked similar paths, who understand each other’s struggles, and who stand together in solidarity.”
Madam Barlay further noted the significance of both formal and informal interactions at the gathering, saying, “These moments allow us the space to build trust, to renew friendships, and to reaffirm our shared commitment to peace and resilience, both in our countries and beyond.”
On behalf of Sierra Leone and all g7+ members, Minister Barlay also thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the g7+ Secretariat, headquarters in Dili for their generous hosting of the event.
