Former Sierra Leonean President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma has announced his plans to return home after an extended period of medical treatment in Nigeria.

The announcement was made during a meeting with a delegation from the All Peoples Congress (APC) in Abuja on Monday, 10th February 2025.

Dr. Koroma, who has been on medical leave since January 2024, expressed his gratitude for the improvement in his health, which has enabled his decision to return to Sierra Leone. The former President, who led the APC during his tenure, shared his intentions with the visiting delegation, marking the second time he has publicly stated his desire to come back home.

The APC delegation, which traveled from Freetown to meet with Dr. Koroma, was warmly received at his residence in Abuja. During the meeting, the former President reflected on his recovery and reiterated his commitment to contributing to the nation’s development.

This announcement follows earlier discussions in December 2024, when Dr. Koroma met with his legal representative, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara (JFK), to explore the possibility of his return.

Since then, JFK has been actively engaging with stakeholders and key party members to facilitate the process. Notably, the former President has already received his APC biometric Identification Card and registration certificate from the party’s current Chairman, Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray.

Dr. Koroma’s medical leave was granted by the High Court of Sierra Leone in January 2024, allowing him to travel to Nigeria for 90 days to seek treatment while facing trial on charges related to an attempted coup and other offenses.

His impending return has sparked widespread anticipation among his supporters and the broader Sierra Leonean community.
