The Ministry of Energy, in collaboration with the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA), has initiated routine inspections of meter installations for Tariff 4 (T4) customers in Freetown.

This initiative aims to establish direct engagement with customers, assess the benefits they receive from EDSA services, and verify that their energy consumption aligns with their installed loads.

The inspection exercise focused on Maximum Demand Indicators (MDIs) to ensure accurate registration of energy consumption and to detect any potential leakages. T4 customers are defined as those with installed loads exceeding 15KW. By scrutinizing these high-demand users, the Ministry and EDSA aim to ensure that energy usage is properly recorded and billed.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance revenue generation and combat illegal electricity connections. The Ministry and EDSA plan to extend similar inspections to other customer categories in future exercises.

As the energy sector is integral to the Feed Salone agenda, ongoing reforms are crucial for ensuring efficient and reliable electricity supply in the region.
