Residents of Najay Village in Pujehun District are raising urgent concerns over the deteriorating state of PDC Najay Primary School, which they describe as a “death trap.”

The school, plagued by cracked walls, a leaking roof, and inadequate seating, has severely disrupted the education of local children.

Town Chief Abu Fullah has labeled the school’s condition as “deplorable” and unfit for learning. According to him, pupils are forced to bring their own seating accommodations or stay at home due to the lack of proper furniture. The school has reportedly been in this dire state for the past three years, causing significant frustration among parents and community members.

Repeated appeals to the Pujehun District Council have so far yielded no action, leaving residents feeling abandoned. “We have reached out to the district authorities multiple times, but no one has responded to our plea. We urgently need intervention before the situation worsens,” Chief Fullah said.

Parents have also expressed their dismay, especially regarding the impact of the rainy season on the school’s infrastructure. “When it rains, the condition of the school becomes unbearable. The roof leaks, and our children have to leave school because they cannot sit in a flooded classroom,” lamented one frustrated parent, who urged authorities to act immediately.

Despite being a beneficiary of the government’s free education program, the school remains in an unlivable state, prompting calls for swift intervention by the Ministry of Education and local authorities. Residents fear that without immediate repairs, the children’s education and safety will be in serious jeopardy.

Community members are now urging the district council and relevant government agencies to prioritize the school’s rehabilitation, emphasizing that education is a fundamental right for their children.
