The Regional Police Commander-East; Mr. Mustapha Solomon Kambeh, and a team of Police personnel has responded to a distress call in respect of an impasse between community people of Gegbema and Ngolahun, Tunkia Chiefdom.

This move was as a result of a report received from both the Officer Commanding Gegbema Tunkia Police Post, Inspector Amara, and the Regional Coordinator for the Free Quality Education – East, Mr. J. J. Vangahun, that the Paramount Chief, Amara Ngowei Sama, and other stakeholders at Ngolahun Tunkia, have stated that the 2022 West Africa Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) should not be conducted at Gegbema, but rather in Ngolahun Town. This, according to the report led to a conflict between the two communities.

As a way to foster peace, the AIG-East, engaged both parties separately and skillfully persuaded them to accept peace. He advised them to show restraints and to upgrade their spirit of unionism, as conflict at this crucial moment over the hosting of the WASSCE was detrimental to His Excellency’s dreams and aspirations of the Free and Quality Education.

This he said, would not only negatively affect the chiefdom but could as well hinder the progress of the children, who might be our future positive leaders. He cautioned them to be aware of the fact that the government is spending a lot of money on the educational system just to create a paradigm shift in the educational arena.

The police boss noted that this was to ensure better and quality products that will salvage the country from turning into something else.

After several statements by different speakers from the two towns, the AIG-East and his team were able to persuade them to see reasons and accept peace as the only way forward, even though various speakers raised concerns about the origin of the impasse, and how far it has expanded

And currently, the entire examination is ongoing peacefully, and more than Seven Hundred pupils, who could have been innocently denied their educational rights, are now peacefully writing to their WASSCE in Gegbema Tuna.
