The Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) has completed a water quality training programme for a cross-section of its staff in Makeni as part of efforts to strengthen technical capacity and improve the delivery of safe drinking water across its operational areas.

The training, which focused on preparing participants to serve as trainers within the company, was led by the Makeni Station Manager, Eng. Osman Turay, and brought together key technical and management personnel from SALWACO’s North-West Region.

Among those in attendance were the Technical Director for the North-West Region, Eng. Augustine Forewa; Regional Manager, North-West, Eng. Lansana B-Sawi; and Operations and Maintenance Manager for the North-West Region, Eng. Jah Edward Toby.

The training session was facilitated by Water Analyst Eng. Unisa from the Water Directorate, who is attached to the Magburaka Laboratory. Participants received practical and technical guidance on water quality monitoring, testing procedures, and quality assurance measures aimed at enhancing the company’s water safety standards.

The capacity-building initiative comes at a time when SALWACO is implementing institutional reforms designed to improve operational efficiency and financial sustainability under the leadership of its Managing Director, Eng. Tiideni Hawa Jabbi.

The company views continuous staff development as a key component of its broader strategy to strengthen service delivery and ensure that communities receive safe, reliable, and affordable water supplies.

Residents and customers have expressed optimism that the training will further improve the quality of water services provided by SALWACO and reinforce public confidence in the company’s operations.

SALWACO is expected to roll out similar water quality training programmes in its other operational regions across the country as part of its ongoing commitment to enhancing professional capacity and maintaining high standards in water supply services nationwide.
