Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, David Moinina Sengeh, has firmly distanced himself from social media attacks targeting First Lady Fatima Bio.
In his New Year’s message to the nation, the Chief Minister emphasized his commitment to respect and civility.
“I want to be very clear that nobody is abusing the First Lady or any other woman or man in my name,” he stated.
Wishing Sierra Leoneans a prosperous new year, the Chief Minister reflected on a prayer from a church service he attended, where the pastor urged the congregation to cultivate good hearts. He highlighted the achievements of 2024 but underscored the need for improvement, particularly in the tone and content of social media discourse.
“Plenty of attacks were made on people through social media,” he remarked, clarifying that he has never encouraged such behavior. “I come from a respectful background that believes in respect for women.”
Looking ahead to 2025, Chief Minister Sengeh issued a strong warning: “Any individual who is close to me or uses their association with me to attack any woman on social media, especially the First Lady, who is my boss’s wife and someone I deeply respect, I will continue to disassociate myself from them.”
He stressed that such actions are not reflective of his values or beliefs, advocating instead for respectful communication as a cornerstone of societal harmony.
The Chief Minister called for a collective prayer for unity, joy, and a clean heart among Sierra Leoneans. “If we, as a nation, respect each other regardless of status, it will bring blessings to our country,” he concluded.
CM, this is very difficult to distance yourself from such allegations because the very guys doing those acts are your support flag bearer propagandists in Bo usually seated at the Shelmigo petrol station and a couple of them always visit your office. Do this with honesty.
Well said. Indeed God’s word we must honour those in He God has placed over us.
