In the latest Global Peace Index (GPI) 2024 report, Sierra Leone has been ranked 8th among the most peaceful African countries. This remarkable achievement underscores the country’s progress in maintaining peace and stability amidst regional challenges.

Globally, the GPI report indicates a concerning rise in conflicts, now numbering 56, which is the highest since World War II. These conflicts have increasingly become international in nature, involving 92 countries in disputes beyond their borders—the most since the inception of the Global Peace Index.

Sierra Leone’s position at 66th globally and 8th in Africa is a testament to the nation’s continuous efforts to foster peace and security. The GPI report reflects the country’s strides in reducing violence and improving public safety, essential components for sustainable development and growth.
The report, however, highlights a broader trend of escalating conflicts worldwide, emphasizing the urgent need for international cooperation and conflict resolution mechanisms. As the world faces an increasing number of disputes, the role of peaceful nations becomes even more critical in promoting global stability.
The GPI continues to serve as a vital tool for understanding the state of peace across the globe, providing valuable insights into the factors that contribute to or detract from peaceful societies. For Sierra Leone, this ranking is a significant achievement, encouraging further efforts to enhance peace and security for its citizens.
Nice to hear this
Indeed Sierra Leone is peaceful enough to be attracting foreign investors but why this isn’t happening is because of the thieving for which our country is notorious. No wonder you see Lebanese and Indian supermarket owners stand over their cashiers to ensure that they don’t steal. Salone is the only country I’ve seen this. A real stigma and shame.
How about the 10th hungriest country in the world (https://www.statista.com/statistics/269924/countries-most-affected-by-hunger-in-the-world-according-to-world-hunger-index/). Did they say, “An hungry man is an angry man?” Anyway, go to bed hungry and sleep in peace.
