Following a warning from the United States, the Sierra Leonean government has acknowledged the impending deportation of 11 individuals believed to be Sierra Leonean citizens.
Chernor Bah, Minister of Information and Civic Education, made the announcement during a press conference held on Tuesday at the Miatta Conference Center.
According to Minister Bah, U.S. authorities informed Sierra Leone of the deportations as part of broader immigration enforcement measures implemented during former President Donald Trump’s administration.
The identities of the deportees have not yet been disclosed. Minister Bah assured the public that upon their arrival, the individuals will undergo thorough screening to verify their citizenship status.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to safeguarding the well-being of its citizens while handling the matter responsibly.
Minister Bah also compared the current deportation situation to similar cases during the previous administration led by the All People’s Congress (APC) party, underscoring the need for continuous monitoring. “Let’s wait and see,” he remarked, highlighting the evolving nature of the issue.
The government is actively preparing for the arrival of the deportees and will take appropriate action once their identities are confirmed.
This development has garnered attention both locally and internationally, as it ties into broader concerns about deportation and immigration policies, particularly those associated with former President Trump’s tenure.
Sierra Leonean authorities have assured the public that they will continue to uphold the rights and security of all citizens, including those returning to the country.
Let just pray nothing wrong with them mentally..
