The World Health Organization (WHO) report has that showed that 37% of the total population of Sierra Leone has been vaccinated against COVID-19 in December 2022 and reached the target of vaccinating 70% of the adult population.
Sierra Leone was one of the first West African nations to receive the COVID-19 vaccine and only 14% of the country’s population was vaccinated in 2022 (March 2021 – March 2022).
The report stated that access to medical care is still unreached in most parts of the country as nurses strive hard to reach remote communities.
It is said that many of the remote communities can only be reached by bike or foot which becomes very difficult during the rainy season.
It states that on the strength and strenuous efforts to reach remote parts and population of the country, a year on Sierra Leone had administered 7.8 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines.
