The Sierra Leone Electricity and Water Regulatory Commission (SLEWRC), has Set New Tariff Standards For Sachet Water in a press release date 28th September 2023.
The release reads; “The Sierra Leone Electricity and Water Regulatory Commission (SLEWRC), the esteemed regulatory body entrusted with overseeing the electricity and water sectors in Sierra Leone, reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the interests of consumers and ensuring the provision of safe, reliable, and affordable utility services.
On Friday, September 22, 2023, the SLEWRC convened a consultative meeting with the Water Union to address the pressing matter of tariff adjustments for sachet water. The objective of this critical meeting was to unveil the Commission’s decision regarding the tariff review requested by the Water Union, aiming to achieve a fair balance between industry sustainability and consumer affordability.
The Economic Regulations Department of the Commission, responsible for meticulously scrutinizing all tariff processes, presented their findings based on information provided by the Water Union. After careful evaluation, the tariff calculation yielded the following standardized prices by categories:
Factory Price per Bundle: NLe: 7.00
Distributors (Vehicle Sale): NLe: 8.00
Retail Price: NLe: 9.00
It is imperative for all sachet water producers to adhere to these prescribed standard prices, which have been established with the mutual interest of the industry and consumers in mind. Non-compliance with these standards may result in punitive measures, including fines not less than NLe: 50,000 or imprisonment for up to five years, as stipulated in the 2011 Act of the Commission.
To ensure transparency and accountability, the Commission extends an open invitation to the general public to report any concerns related to quality, pricing, or impersonation. Should you have any inquiries or wish to report an issue, please do not hesitate to contact us at +23278359299 or visit our office located at 55 Berwick Street, Freetown.
The Sierra Leone Electricity and Water Regulatory Commission remains committed to upholding the highest standards in utility services and promoting a sustainable, competitive industry while safeguarding the welfare of the Sierra Leonean people.”
