The Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) has acted swiftly to clear the Brima Lane-Portee axis in Freetown after heavy rains caused debris to block the road, the Authority confirmed in a statement.
The SLRA’s Department of Urban Roads said the obstruction resulted from waste washed onto the carriageway from roadside gutters, reducing the road to a single lane and causing significant traffic delays and safety concerns for commuters.
“SLRA teams worked tirelessly to remove the debris and restore normal traffic flow,” the Authority stated, noting that the operation was widely welcomed by residents and road users. The clearance highlights the SLRA’s mandate to ensure safer and more reliable roads across Sierra Leone.

Community members expressed gratitude for the prompt response, acknowledging that the intervention prevented prolonged disruption along one of Freetown’s busiest corridors.
At the same time, residents urged fellow citizens to adopt responsible waste disposal practices, warning that indiscriminate dumping into gutters endangers road safety and infrastructure.

The Brima Lane-Portee axis serves as a critical link for trade, transport, and daily movement between Freetown and Waterloo.
SLRA officials stressed that while the Authority will continue to respond quickly in emergencies, long-term solutions require collective responsibility in managing waste and protecting the city’s roads against seasonal hazards.
