Thieves have desecrated several graves at Kissy Road Cemetery in Freetown last week according to a video shared by Journalist, Harold Smith.

The video revealed that the thieves destroyed the slab coverings of graves while carting away with tons of iron rod. Smith revealed in the video that the incident has become a new modus operandi of thieves at Kissy Road Cemetery and several other grave sites in the capital, Freetown.

He said that the condition of the dug grave leaves a harrowing experience for grieving families as well as other locals who use the cemetery.

The journalist encouraged the Freetown Mayor, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr to address the situation before spiraling out of control.

This malaise surfaced days after the Freetown Mayor celebrated and shared that her council has completed a perimeter fencing of the said cemetery.

This is not the first time thieves run rampage on graveyards in Freetown. Graves in the recent past have been looted for human bones used as an ingredient in producing the narcotic drug, Kush.

Some netizens reacting to the video have called on authorities to mount security at various graveyards in Freetown and Waterloo in the Rural District of the Western Area.

Kissy Road Cemetery is one of the most popular cemeteries in Freetown. The burial ground is serving as resting place for several prominent Sierra Leoneans including former President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, Philanthropist Moseray Fadika and Imam Bashara Sankoh Yilla.
