On Friday, August 9th, 2024, the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs and her team conducted an inspection of major ongoing tourism development projects at Bureh Beach, Tacugama, and Leicester Peak. These projects, funded through the World Bank’s Economic Diversification Project, aim to enhance market access and improve the quality of tourism products and services in Sierra Leone.
Once completed, these sites will feature new ecologically friendly facilities designed to attract both local and international visitors. The specific facilities for each location are as follows:
- Bureh Beach: Surf club, market sheds, toilet, boardwalk, jetty, road, car park, community toilet, community borehole, and water tower.
-
Tacugama: Road work, car park, amphitheater, botanical garden, innovation center, ticket booth, and kids playground.
-
Leicester Peak: Road work and viewing decks.
The Minister and her team are closely monitoring the progress to ensure that the projects are completed by November 2024 and September 2025. The inspection team included representatives from the World Bank SLEDP team, the Director of Tourism, and other ministry officials.
