After growing concern from residents and traders about a large buildup of waste near the Freetown City Council (FCC) building at Portee Market, action has now been taken to clear the area.

According to reports, over five trucks labeled “FCC” were seen at the location this morning, working to remove the waste. The situation had drawn attention from the public, with many calling directly on Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr to step in and ensure the area was cleaned.

This response appears to align with the mayor’s ongoing #DortiMusGo campaign, which encourages residents to report unmanaged waste and follow city waste regulations. The cleanup also comes as the city prepares to fully enforce the Solid and Liquid Waste Collection Byelaws.

With trucks now on site and waste being removed, residents say the response addresses the concerns they raised about the area around the FCC building.
