A young Sierra Leonean businesswoman, Aminata Sesay, has been denied bail and committed to the High Court for trial on serious drug-related charges.

The ruling came during her recent appearance before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown.

Sesay, who reportedly operates a private business in the capital, is facing three counts under Sierra Leone’s drug control laws. She stands accused of collecting prohibited drugs (specifically cocaine) without lawful authority, possessing the same without authorization, and engaging in illegal dealings involving the narcotic substance.

The charges relate to an incident that occurred on January 3, 2025, at #26 Off Race Course Road, Cline Town, Freetown. According to court records, law enforcement officials allege that Sesay was involved in the illegal handling of cocaine at the said location. When the charges were formally read and explained in court, Sesay did not enter a plea.

The lead prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police Isatu Baba Musa, presented multiple exhibits and formally submitted the case file for consideration. Following a review of the prosecution’s evidence, Magistrate Bangura ruled that a prima facie case had been established against the accused.

Consequently, Sesay was denied bail and ordered to face trial at the High Court. The magistrate’s decision underscores the judiciary’s stern stance on narcotics-related offenses, even when the accused is a first-time offender or prominent figure in the business community.
