The Chairman of the Energy Governance Coordinating Group, Dr. Kandeh Yumkella, made an unannounced visit to the Kingtom Power Station on March 25, 2025, to assess the current load shedding schedule.
This visit comes in response to reports contradicting the officially announced power distribution, with residents, particularly along Wilkinson Road in Freetown, expressing frustration over ongoing power outages.
During his visit, Dr. Yumkella aimed to verify several issues related to the ongoing power distribution concerns. A significant point of contention was the unexplained lack of power supply to various areas, despite the load shedding schedule indicating that these communities should receive power on alternating days.
Upon arriving at the power station, Dr. Yumkella noted that both Nigatta generators were operating smoothly, and a fuel tanker was actively supplying fuel at 9:45 p.m. This observation raised questions about the apparent disconnect between the power being generated and the actual supply reaching the community.
The situation has cast doubt on the accuracy of the information provided to Dr. Yumkella regarding the load shedding schedules, prompting further investigation into the discrepancies affecting power distribution in the region.
