Sierra Leone’s main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) Party has condemned the burning of Diana Konomanyi’s home in Kono District, Eastern Sierra Leone.

Konomanyi, who served as government minister under erstwhile President Koroma, saw her home torched down by unknown arsonists on Tuesday.

“The APC commiserates with its comrade; Madam Konomanyi, and unequivocally condemns this savage and criminal act and calls on the Sierra Leone Police to speedily investigate and bring perpetrators to book,” the Party said.

Following the aftermath of the inferno, a theory accused the party of being behind the incident because Konomanyi is said to have secretly joined the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party.

The younger brother of the APC member Tamba Konomanyi, however, debunked the allegations but cited that her sister was displeased with the party over statements that questioned her relevance recently.

Meanwhile, former vice president Samuel Sam-Sumana and other APC stakeholders visited Konomanyi at her residence in Freetown. During the visit, she solidified her support to the party while appreciating their gesture towards her.

Kono is predicted to be a swing district in the 2023 elections by political analysts especially with the collapse of the Coalition for Change (C4C) Party. The two largest parties in the country have prioritised winning the district ahead of the polls.
