The Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh, has announced that he will not return to Parliament after the 2028 general elections.

“There is life after work. I need to go to my village and undertake my farming activities. I need to rest,” he disclosed.

Hon. Conteh made the statement during a hearing with the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NaSSIT), held at the New Administrative Conference Hall in Parliament.

During the hearing, the Chairman said the Public Accounts Committee, which is responsible for overseeing the use of public funds and addressing audit concerns, has resolved to ensure that all government funds are collected. He confirmed that any institution owing the government would be held accountable and required to pay what is due.

He further stated that all recovered revenues are being deposited into the Consolidated Revenue Fund and that the Public Accounts Committee Secretariat is in possession of all payment documents for verification purposes.

“In the work of the Public Accounts Committee, there is no secrecy; it is open, transparent, and a work in progress. The Committee will never relent in its quest to recover missing funds of the state,” he stated.

The Deputy Speaker also advised Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to operate within the legal framework and adhere to the rules and regulations that govern public financial management and audit processes.

He said that going forward, the Public Accounts Committee would continue to engage Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to raise awareness about its work and the importance of training in responsible management of public funds.

He expressed appreciation to his fellow Members of Parliament for their support and commitment to promoting transparency and accountability and also acknowledged past Chairmen of the Public Accounts Committee for their role in improving public financial oversight.
