The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has penalised Old Edwardians FC after fans attacked an assistant referee during their match with FC Kallon.

The incident occurred at Angola Field where the ‘May Park’ team’s fans invaded the pitch in the 55th minutes and attacked the assistant referee 2, Ibrahim Bah.

According to the FA, one the fans shoved their index finger in the future eye of the referee which eventually led to a discontinuation of the match.

The SLFA said that the action of the Old Edwardians fans contravenes Articles 46.1 and 34.1 of Premier League Rules and Regulations. The said rules preach against pitch invasion and unhealthy sport behaviours.

The FA, after investigation, have the Premier League club culpable of the offence and said that since the fans that attacked the official cannot be identified, the club will have to bear the brunt of the incident.

“The Committee unanimously agrees that since the identity of the assailant supporter is unknown, the Club which he belongs, pursuant to Articles 46.1 and 34.3 is held culpable,” the FA said.

The FA’s committee said that Old Edwardians are responsible for the abrupt end of the match.

The Committee levied a fine of NLe 2,000 to the club and also forfeited the match in favour of FC Kallon by 3 goals to nil.

This recent development came after the club’s head coach resigned a few days ago.

The club’s latest result was a draw with Central Parade two all after leading by 2 goals in the first half.
