The Sierra Leone National Football Agents have issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), demanding a clear explanation for the delay in issuing their certificates, one year after successfully completing the Local Football Agent Examination.
In a press release, the agents voiced their frustration over the lack of communication and transparency regarding the certification process.
The examination, conducted by the SLFA, required candidates to pay a registration fee of 200 new Leones and achieve a pass mark of 75%. Following this, candidates paid an additional 3,000 new Leones for training and certification. Despite fulfilling all requirements, the agents claim they have received no updates about the promised program.
The agents criticized the SLFA for failing to provide a timeline or explanation, labeling the situation as a breach of trust and accountability. They also expressed concerns over comments from SLFA representatives about potentially removing certain candidates from the program, calling such remarks “intimidating and inappropriate.”
The press release highlighted that the SLFA’s actions may violate both FIFA regulations and Sierra Leonean consumer protection laws. FIFA mandates transparency and accountability in the certification of agents, while national laws prohibit the collection of fees without delivering promised services.
The agents made three key demands:
- A formal update on the status of the certification program.
- A full refund of fees, including 100% interest, totaling 21,000 new Leones per candidate, if the program is canceled.
- A commitment to transparency and accountability in future dealings.
The agents warned that failure to respond within 24 hours would result in escalation to FIFA’s Disciplinary and Players’ Status Committees and potential legal action.
They also criticized the exclusion of local certified agents from ongoing Sierra Leone Premier League player signings, calling it detrimental to the integrity of football management.
The SLFA is yet to respond to the ultimatum.
