The Minister of Sport, Ibrahim Nyelenkeh has told the press that Government plans to privatise the National Stadium after the completion of renovation works by Chinese company.
“Let us be hasty to say this stadium is under privatisation now as I speak.
“I’ve tabled it before cabinet and it has been approved,” Minister Nyelenkeh said.
He added that proper bidding will start after 70 percent of the work would have been completed.
“The bidders should be Sierra Leoneans,” he said.
Sierraloaded understands that the rationale for the privatisation is because Government wants to generate more income from the facility than before.
According to the contractors, the completion of the 30,000 capacity stadium will position it to be among the best in the sub-region.
The stadium’s practice field will be transformed to a 2,000 capacity mini stadium.
“I am really impressed with the work done so far.
“My dream is to make sure that the practicing field being constructed to a mini stadium with the capacity of 2,000 spectators,” Nyelenkeh said.
This is very shameful to hear. We seem to be selling out our country bit by bit. First it was a “toll road”, then operations at the Quay, followed by the airport and now what we call our national stadium. Sad truth. Instead of learning from our past mistakes we keep making more mistakes. Another mistake made in the past was the agreements made with some mining companies. And lest I forget, electricity supply in the Country is also outsourced or somewhat privatized. May God help our Land.
Oh Leaders of our lovely country, they’re selling it bit by bit. You guys had already sold 70% of the country treasures to foreigners and now it our only national stadium 🏟. Next is gonna be State House and Law Court building. Leh God sorry 4 we!!! Some man nor get 4 end fine na this life ya.
A nation with no national stadium.
Hmmm!!!😀😀😀😀😀
Where are we heading to??¿???
