According to close sources within the logistics section of the national team setup, Sierra Leone previously spent approximately €50,000 per match to host Leone Stars games in Morocco during the tenure of former SLFA President Thomas Daddy Brima, alongside former NSA Executive Director Kenneth Brima and former Sports Minister Ibrahim Nylenkeh.

However, a shift in strategy was announced when the current National Sports Authority boss, Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, assumed office. During his first press conference, he indicated plans to relocate Leone Stars matches to Liberia a move sources claim could cost as much as $250,000 per game.

The reported increase in hosting expenses has sparked quiet debate among stakeholders, particularly given that Leone Stars have shown they can perform comfortably at neutral venues.

Sources further suggest that, based on the team’s adaptability to playing abroad, the urgency surrounding the completion of a home stadium may not be as critical as often portrayed.
