The National Sports Authority (NSA) has praised Sierra Leone’s Under-17 female national team following their impressive 2-1 win against Ivory Coast in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2026 qualifying campaign.
The hard-fought victory on foreign soil has been described as a major boost for women’s football in Sierra Leone, reflecting the steady progress being made in nurturing young female talent across the country.
In a statement, the NSA lauded the players for demonstrating determination, discipline, and a strong sense of national pride throughout the encounter. The Authority noted that the result not only highlights the team’s growing competitiveness on the international stage but also signals a promising future for the women’s game.
The NSA also acknowledged the contributions of the technical team and officials, as well as the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), for their role in guiding the team to victory. Their combined efforts, the Authority stated, have been instrumental in achieving what it described as a significant milestone.
Reaffirming its commitment to sports development, the NSA emphasized continued support for the domestic female league, which it identified as a key pipeline for discovering and developing emerging talents now representing the country at international level.
The win places Sierra Leone in a stronger position in the qualification race, while further energizing efforts to elevate women’s football nationwide.
