Chief Minister David Sengeh has expressed his enthusiastic support for the appointment of Mohamed Kallon as the new Head Coach of the Sierra Leone national men’s football team, Leone Stars.
In a social media post, Sengeh revealed that he and football legend Edgar Davids had personally contacted Kallon to offer their congratulations.
“Edgar Davids and I called our brother Mohamed Kallon today to congratulate him on his role as the new head coach of Sierra Leone Stars,” Sengeh wrote. “Super exciting times ahead. Let’s go win the World Cup, our darling Leone Stars.”
The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Executive Committee announced Kallon’s appointment, highlighting his wealth of experience, leadership, and passion.
Kallon, a former Leone Stars captain and international football star, is expected to immediately begin preparing the team for the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Guinea Bissau and Egypt next month.
Sengeh’s message reflects the widespread optimism surrounding Kallon’s appointment. As one of Sierra Leone’s most celebrated footballers, Kallon is seen as an inspiration and a key figure in the team’s drive for international success.
The SLFA has expressed confidence in Kallon’s ability to transform Leone Stars and re-establish Sierra Leone’s presence on the global football stage. The association will hold a press conference to officially unveil Kallon at a later date.
