Presidential aspirant for the All People’s Congress APC, Kaifala Marah, recently spoke at the Bintumani Conference Centre during a town hall event called “The Nation at Crossroads.”
The gathering brought together professionals and citizens from across Sierra Leone to discuss the country’s economic challenges and possible solutions.

Marah opened up about the difficult state of the economy. He pointed out that rising prices, unstable electricity supply, and a lack of public confidence are hurting many Sierra Leoneans. He said one of the biggest problems is that the government keeps spending more than it earns, leading to financial instability.
To fix this, Marah said the country needs fiscal rationalization. This means cutting unnecessary government spending, improving the way money is collected, and stopping waste. Drawing on his experience as a former Minister of Finance and Governor of the Bank of Sierra Leone, he shared how these steps helped during his time in office.

He also suggested creating a special panel to check government spending and called for a review of travel policies to reduce costs. Marah highlighted issues at the country’s main port where revenue is being lost and said reforms there could help improve government income.
The Bintumani event was set up to encourage open and honest conversation. Marah said it is important to involve not just politicians but everyday citizens in discussions about national issues. He said politics should be more inclusive and focused on finding real solutions.
Marah made it clear that while he is running for president, his campaign is based on experience and results rather than just promises. He spoke about patriotism and said his record shows he cares deeply about the country’s future. He also said leaders need to listen closely to citizens, not just within government meetings but across the country.
He acknowledged the hardships people are facing today and said it is time for leaders to take serious action to turn things around. The event ended with a question and answer session where Marah responded to concerns and ideas from those present.

Marah also talked about the need to support young people by investing more in education and skills training, saying the youth are key to the country’s progress. He urged stronger support for private businesses, especially in farming, infrastructure, and small enterprises, to help grow the economy.
He encouraged Sierra Leoneans to be active in holding leaders accountable, saying that real change comes when citizens take part in shaping the country’s future.
For many at the town hall, the discussion felt like a new beginning, one focused on fixing what is broken and building a better future for Sierra Leone.
