Inspector General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu, on July 31, 2025, hosted a delegation from the Liberian Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) at the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) Headquarters.
The delegation, led by LACC Coordinator of Operations, Mr. Patrick Sandy, visited Sierra Leone to learn from the country’s successful collaboration between the SLP and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), with the aim of strengthening Liberia’s own anti-corruption strategies
The delegation included key officials such as Mr. Ernest Hughes, Vice Executive Chairman of the LACC; Madam Vivian S. Akoto, Executive Assistant and Programme Manager; and Mr. John E. Tommy, Programme Manager in the Education and Prevention Office. Their discussions with IGP Sellu aimed to identify effective strategies that could be implemented in Liberia.

During the meeting, Mr. Sandy praised the long-standing collaboration between the SLP and ACC, particularly in joint integrity-building efforts. He acknowledged the importance of recent training workshops for law enforcement agencies as part of this partnership.
IGP Sellu emphasized the supportive relationship between the SLP and ACC in combating corruption. “The SLP takes a two-pronged approach when our officers are involved in corruption,” he stated.

“We apply our internal disciplinary regulations to investigate and, if necessary, take administrative action. If an officer is found guilty of corrupt practices, they are dismissed. We also ensure that we do not interfere with ACC investigations.”
Sellu outlined additional support provided by the SLP to the ACC, including access to detention facilities for suspects and operational assistance during arrests. He also highlighted the establishment of the Integrity Management Committee (IMC), an initiative by the ACC aimed at reducing corruption within the police force.

IGP Sellu further discussed regional cooperation through the West African Police Information System (WAPIS), which facilitates information sharing about persons of interest across the subregion.
He concluded by mentioning upcoming plans for a meeting of West African Police Chiefs to discuss a potential regional security framework to enhance cross-border collaboration.
Mr. Ernest Hughes expressed appreciation for the insights shared by IGP Sellu, noting that the Liberian delegation gained valuable knowledge to strengthen their collaboration with the Liberia National Police.
