In a decisive crackdown, Sierra Leone police and military forces launched a sweeping series of raids in Bo yesterday, targeting criminal hideouts amid a sharp rise in armed robberies across the region.
The joint security operation, which includes day and night patrols, targets criminal hideouts and areas linked to armed robbery, unlawful possession of arms, and other violent crimes.
Assistant Inspector General of Police Brima Kannoh, the Regional Police Commander for the South, reassured the community that their peace and safety are his top priorities. He vowed, “Whosoever attempts to threaten that peace will be treated like an enemy.”
The high-powered operation is led by AIG Kanneh and supported by his deputy, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mrs. Fatmata Jebeh Daboh Kamara. Ground execution is coordinated by strategic commanders, including Chief Superintendent of Police Joseph Honor and Chief Superintendent of Police Mrs. Bernadette Sia Sandy.
To ensure professionalism and accountability, Superintendent Bangura from the Complaints, Discipline, and Internal Investigations Department (CDIID) is closely monitoring all phases of the operation. The raids are reinforced by military personnel from the 5 Brigade and involve night deployments, stop-and-search checkpoints, intelligence-led operations, and targeted patrols in hotspot neighborhoods.
The heavy presence of combined forces has sent a strong deterrent message to criminal gangs, indicating that law enforcement is firmly in control. Community members, long troubled by the rise in armed robbery, have welcomed the show of force. “We now feel safer seeing the Army and Police working hand in hand for us,” one resident remarked.
AIG Kanneh emphasized the mission’s importance: “The peace of my people in the South is non-negotiable. Whoever dares disturb that peace will be treated as an enemy of the state.”
Authorities confirmed that all policing units—General Duty, OSD, Traffic, and Intelligence—are participating in the operation alongside the military. The initiative will continue until Bo City is free from criminal activity, aiming to create a safer environment for education and family life as the South unites against armed crime.
