The case of Ishmael Hortons Jalloh, a 39-year-old businessman accused of stealing over Le 981,268 from Ecobank, was brought before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Court No.2 on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.
Jalloh faces charges of Larceny by Servant, in violation of Section 17(1)(a) of the Larceny Act of 1916. The allegations state that, between September 5, 2022, and November 2024, while employed as a Card Operations Officer at Ecobank Sierra Leone Limited’s headquarters in Freetown, he stole the sum of Le 981,268.38 in new notes from the bank’s general ledger.
It is further alleged that Jalloh deposited the stolen money into Car Tech Account Number 6340005879, from which the account owner later withdrew the funds following instructions from Jalloh.
The stolen funds are reported to belong to Ecobank Sierra Leone Limited.
When the charges were read, Jalloh did not enter a plea. The prosecution was led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Dialla Wellington. The first prosecution witness, Osman David Kamara, is the Head of Internal Audit at Ecobank Freetown.
Kamara testified that he recognized the accused as a staff member working in Card Operations and confirmed his employment with the bank.
The prosecution requested additional time to consult with the witness before proceeding further.
Jalloh’s defense lawyer, J. B. Massaquio, applied for bail, arguing that his client has trustworthy sureties willing to stand surety for him. Counsel also stated that Jalloh was granted bail at the police station and has been consistently available for court sessions.
Magistrate Fornah rejected the bail application and remanded Jalloh into custody until the next hearing. The case has been adjourned to September 19, 2025, for continued trial proceedings.
