In a tense courtroom session at Pademba Road Court No. 4 in Freetown, Ibrahim Bangura, a security guard employed on Jones Street, was remanded into custody after vehemently disputing the testimony of a crucial prosecution witness in a case of fraudulent conversion.

Bangura faces allegations of unlawfully converting a blue TVS King 300 Tricycle valued at Le80,000, entrusted to him for safekeeping, on August 2, 2025.

During the hearing, police prosecutor A. I. Bangura examined Barrie, who stated that he is responsible for securing tricycles on Jones Street in exchange for a daily fee of Le10 per vehicle.

Barrie confirmed that on the day of the incident, he handed over the blue tricycle with registration number AXG 958 to Bangura for safekeeping overnight, advising him to lock the vehicle’s head to prevent theft.

Barrie testified that the following morning, he visited Bangura’s premises to retrieve the tricycle but was told by Bangura that it had been collected at 5:00 am.

When Barrie insisted he had not sent anyone to collect the vehicle and had not come himself, Bangura maintained that Barrie had taken the tricycle at the specified time. Barrie then called the complainant, who subsequently went to the scene, detained Bangura, and made a statement at the police station.

In his defense, Bangura, who was unrepresented by legal counsel, denied the prosecution’s account, asserting that Barrie’s testimony was false.

After considering the evidence and arguments, Magistrate Kandeh ordered that Bangura be remanded at the Pademba Road Male Correctional Centre pending further investigation. The case has been adjourned to Wednesday, September 24, 2025, for continued hearing.

The case has drawn significant attention as the defendant disputed the evidence presented by the witness, leading to his remand pending further inquiries.
