Sierra Leone’s Chief Justice, His Lordship Justice Komba Kamanda, was given a rousing welcome in Freetown on Friday following his return from the Commonwealth Magistrates and Judges’ Association (CMJA) Conference held in Banjul, The Gambia.
On his arrival at the Freetown International Airport, Justice Kamanda and his delegation were received by an enthusiastic gathering of Judges, Magistrates, and staff of the Judiciary, who joined a ceremonial motorcade in his honour.
The convoy proceeded through the central streets of Freetown and culminated at the Freetown Central Mosque on Wilberforce Street, where the Chief Justice participated in the traditional Assize Service, a Judicial Thanksgiving marking the opening of the 2025/2026 Judicial Year.
The heroic reception, Judiciary officials said, was both a gesture of solidarity and recognition of Justice Kamanda’s leadership and the reforms he continues to champion within the justice sector.
The CMJA Conference, which brings together judicial officers from across the Commonwealth, offered Sierra Leone’s judiciary an opportunity to strengthen its visibility on the international stage, exchange ideas, and foster partnerships in advancing the rule of law.
