The opposition All People’s Congress (APC) has asked the Political Parties Regulatory Commission (PPRC) to throw out a complaint by former Vice President Alhaji Sam Sumana, insisting his 2015 expulsion remains valid.
In a 17-page letter signed by Secretary General Lansana Dumbuya, the party argued that the Supreme Court ruling of 2015 confirmed Sumana’s removal and bars him from reopening the matter before the PPRC or any internal party body.
It said documents such as a 2020 NAC letter or dues paid into the party’s account “do not amount to lawful readmission,” citing a High Court ruling that nullified Peter Conteh’s attempt to reinstate him in 2022.
The APC maintained that Sumana’s membership was “conclusively severed,” pointing to his leadership of a rival party as further proof. It added that only the National Delegates Conference can readmit expelled members a decision taken in February 2023.
Sumana, however, insists his membership remains intact, arguing that the APC’s acceptance of his dues from 2016 to 2023 and his participation in the 2023 primaries confirm continuity.
He accused the party leadership of using Article 56(b) of the 2022 constitution which requires five years of continuous membership for presidential aspirants as a tool to disqualify him, calling it “unconstitutional.”
The former Vice President has urged the PPRC to compel the APC to recognise his status, warning that the party’s actions undermine democracy and the rule of law.
