Concerns have emerged over the whereabouts of six luxury vehicles allegedly stolen from Canada and impounded by authorities in Sierra Leone, following reports that the vehicles are no longer at the facility where they were being held.
On July 23, 2025, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Morie Lengor Esq., paid an inspection visit to the Queen Elizabeth II Quay (Water Quay) in Freetown, where the vehicles had been seized. The impounded fleet comprised one 2025 Land Cruiser Defender Jeep and five Lexus RX 350 SUVs, all reportedly linked to international vehicle theft.
Subsequent to the minister’s visit, the vehicles were removed from Water Quay and transferred to the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) Headquarters in Hastings for safekeeping, according to official sources at the time.
Global Times Newspaper reports that multiple sources have since alleged that all six vehicles have disappeared from the TOCU Headquarters, raising serious questions about their current status and the integrity of their custody.
When contacted on the matter, the Head of Crime Intelligence Services of the Sierra Leone Police, Assistant Inspector General RPG Roberts, confirmed to Global Times that the vehicles are in the custody of the Sierra Leone Police. He disclosed that a decision has already been taken regarding the vehicles, but declined to provide further details.
Authorities say investigations into the matter are ongoing, as public interest grows over the handling of the high-value assets and the outcome of the alleged international vehicle theft case.
