Lower-level elections of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) in Aberdeen, Constituency 131 have been put on hold following violent confrontations among rival supporters, according to reports from the area.

The disruption reportedly occurred in,Ward 443, where tensions escalated into a riotous confrontation between supporters aligned with different camps within the party. Although full details remain unclear, several videos circulating on social media appear to show groups of supporters engaged in heated clashes.

Party officials have yet to release a comprehensive statement on the incident or confirm when the electoral process in the affected constituency will resume.

Meanwhile, the election process is continuing peacefully in other constituencies and wards across the country, in line with expectations set by the party’s leadership.

Earlier, the APC’s Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Abdul Kargbo, urged the party’s elections committee to conduct the process with fairness and objectivity, emphasizing the importance of credibility and unity within the party.

The APC is currently conducting lower-level elections as part of its internal restructuring and preparations for the 2028 general elections. The party has been in opposition since losing the presidency in 2018, when its candidate was defeated in a runoff election by President Julius Maada Bio of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).

APC officials have repeatedly expressed confidence in their chances of returning to power in 2028, citing concerns over governance and corruption under the current administration.

Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
