The 300 Days Activism initiative officially kicked off today at the Miatta Civic Center in Freetown, aiming to enhance maternal health awareness across Sierra Leone.

The program is part of President Julius Maada Bio’s broader healthcare agenda, focusing on improving care for pregnant women and reducing maternal mortality.

The initiative prioritizes uninterrupted antenatal care, safer deliveries, and postnatal follow-up, with healthcare providers playing a central role. The Ministry of Health is leading the effort, coordinating activities to ensure that pregnant women receive timely and comprehensive care throughout their pregnancy journey.

Sierra Leone has made significant progress in reducing maternal deaths, recording a 74% decrease between 2000 and 2020. Despite these improvements, the country continues to face challenges, with a maternal mortality rate of 443 deaths per 100,000 live births.

Officials emphasised that the 300 Days Activism campaign seeks to address these challenges by raising public awareness, strengthening health systems, and encouraging community participation to ensure that mothers and newborns receive the care they need.
