National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) Director General Mohamed Fuaad Daboh has formally presented newly appointed Board Chairperson Isata Marrah to Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security Mohamed Rahman Swaray.

The meeting served as an official introduction following Marrah’s approval by parliament.

Minister Swaray welcomed Marrah warmly, describing her arrival as timely given NASSIT’s current trajectory of expansion and service improvement. He emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts between his ministry and the institution.

“We should work together to improve the wages and welfare of Sierra Leonean workers,” the Minister stated. “You are coming in at a very exciting moment as NASSIT continues expanding its operations.”

Minister Swaray highlighted several recent achievements under the institution’s current leadership. These include commissioning a district office in Moyamba, the first such facility since NASSIT’s establishment, and implementing a more effective identification system with new contributor ID cards. Several additional district offices are scheduled for commissioning in the coming months.

The Minister also linked the appointment to broader government commitments under President Julius Maada Bio. He cited the recent national minimum wage increase, taking effect in April, as evidence of the administration’s dedication to worker welfare.

“After contributing years of service to a company, workers should retire with dignity and happiness,” Minister Swaray noted. “NASSIT exists to ensure contributors are protected against the contingencies provided for in the Act.”

In her response Isata Marrah expressed gratitude to both the Minister and Director General for facilitating the introduction. She described social security as fundamental to society and voiced enthusiasm about joining the institution at this pivotal moment.

“I am happy to be here and grateful for the warm welcome,” she said. “NASSIT represents a bedrock of our society because social security is extremely important.”

The new Board Chair praised Director General Daboh’s leadership, crediting him for the institution’s current strength. She also commended the government’s minimum wage increase and expressed support for ministry plans extending coverage to informal sector workers.

“Our Director General is a very capable leader. If the institution stands strong today, it is largely because of the work he is doing,” Madam Marrah said.

  1. She assured stakeholders of her commitment to collaborative leadership. “I am here to work with all of you. I believe together we will make a meaningful difference in this institution.”
