The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Henry Musa Kpaka, has paid a courtesy visit to the office of the Livestock and Livelihoods Development Project (LLDP) to assess progress and ensure alignment with national priorities under the Feed Salone Agenda.
During the visit, Dr. Kpaka and his delegation met with the leadership and staff of LLDP to discuss the project’s role in strengthening Sierra Leone’s livestock sector. He urged the project team to clearly define their roles and ensure that all interventions are closely aligned with government objectives. He emphasized that LLDP must contribute directly to the Feed Salone Agenda in order to achieve sustainable and high-impact results.
The Minister highlighted several key announcements and achievements under the project. He disclosed that at the start of 2026, he commissioned a fully automated egg production facility at the Regeneration Investment Fund in the Western Area, Freetown, with a production capacity of 20,000 eggs per day. He further noted that a complementary poultry site at Newton currently houses 22,000 birds, significantly expanding the country’s poultry production capacity.
Dr. Kpaka also announced plans to commission an additional facility in the coming weeks, which is expected to produce 35,000 eggs per day. In support of livestock sustainability, he revealed that the government has deployed 40 tractors to boost the cultivation of animal feed, strengthening the link between crop production and livestock development.

He described these interventions as strategic steps toward reducing reliance on imports, increasing local protein supply, and improving feed security across the livestock sector.
The Minister also stressed the importance of mentorship and capacity building, particularly given the large number of young professionals engaged in the project. He underscored the need for knowledge transfer to ensure that technical advancements are sustained through local expertise and leadership.
Speaking during the engagement, the Project Manager of LLDP, Mr. Tejan Koroma, reaffirmed the team’s commitment to sustaining progress across all components of the project. He outlined ongoing efforts to accelerate implementation through strengthened partnerships and stakeholder consultations, while emphasizing efficient delivery of key activities.
Mr. Koroma further highlighted a renewed focus on office branding to better reflect the project’s identity and its alignment with the Ministry’s strategic objectives.
The Minister’s visit signals a renewed drive to scale up livestock production and better integrate project activities with national policy. Immediate priorities include the commissioning of the new egg production facility, expansion of feed cultivation through mechanization, and the strengthening of mentorship programmes for young professionals.
The visit underscores the government’s commitment to transforming Sierra Leone’s livestock sector through infrastructure development, mechanization, and human capital investment. With these planned expansions and a sharpened focus on capacity building, LLDP is well positioned to play a central role in delivering the Feed Salone Agenda and advancing national food security.
