Residents of Wai Community in Sorogbema Chiefdom, Pujehun District, are set to benefit from improved access to healthcare services following the inauguration of a newly constructed health center by Orange Sierra Leone.
The modern 10-room facility, valued at SLE 1.8 million, was officially opened in a ceremony attended by key government officials, community leaders, and stakeholders. The event was led by the Deputy Minister of Health I, Dr. Charles Sennessie, alongside Orange Sierra Leone’s Chief Executive Officer, Aicha Toure. Also present was the Paramount Chief of the area, Mustapha Jeangay Massaquoi III, and other traditional authorities.
The newly constructed health center replaces an older structure and is equipped to provide a broader range of services, including maternal and child healthcare, emergency care, and basic diagnostic services. Health officials say the facility is expected to significantly improve healthcare delivery in the community and contribute to reducing preventable diseases.
Speaking at the ceremony, representatives highlighted the importance of partnerships between the private sector and government in addressing healthcare challenges, particularly in rural communities. The project was implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the district health management team.
For residents of Wai Community and surrounding areas, the facility marks a critical step toward accessible and quality healthcare. Local leaders expressed optimism that the center will help reduce the need for long-distance travel in search of medical services, especially for pregnant women and children.
The initiative forms part of Orange Sierra Leone’s broader corporate social responsibility efforts aimed at supporting community development beyond its core telecommunications services.
