Sports Minister Augusta James-Teima has officially called on the National Sports Authority (NSA) to discuss proper procedures for the appointment of national team coaches.

In a correspondence dated Friday, 10th April 2026 and formally delivered on Monday, 13th April 2026, MOS stated: “It’s imperative that we discuss the procedures for the appointment of coaches, referees, umpires, and judges as provided for by our laws.”

The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, 14th April 2026 at the Ministry of Sports Conference Hall and will focus on establishing clear rules of engagement for the technical staff of national teams.

The meeting comes after the recent decision by the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) to terminate Mohamed Kallon’s appointment as Head Coach of the national team, the Leone Stars, with immediate effect.

In a letter dated April 2, 2026, SLFA General Secretary Mohamed Benson Bawoh informed Kallon that the Executive Committee reached the decision following a thorough review of his engagement, conduct, and performance. The SLFA pointed to several instances of persistent non-compliance with administrative, operational, and regulatory requirements.

According to the Ministry, the dismissal of the Leone Stars technical team came at a time when the Team is on the verge of participating in the qualification process for a major competition.

NSA Boss Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai told the public on 98.1 that the Minister of Sports has never prescribed procedures for the appointment of national team coaches as obligated to the Minister in the NSA ACT 2017.
