The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has officially unveiled new uniforms for its Customs Services Department as part of preparations for the upcoming World Customs Organization-West and Central African (WCO-WCA) region expert meetings and conference scheduled to take place from May 4 to 8 at the Freetown International Conference Centre in Aberdeen.
The unveiling ceremony, held at the Customs House in Cline Town, was led by the Commissioner-General of the NRA, Mrs. Jeneba J. Bangura, who described the new uniforms as a symbol of discipline, unity, and institutional identity within the Authority.
“This initiative reflects the Authority’s continued drive for professionalism and improved service delivery, as a well-presented workforce strengthens public confidence and supports revenue generation through improved compliance,” Mrs. Bangura said during her address.

She emphasized that the introduction of the uniforms is part of broader institutional reforms aimed at modernizing the Authority, strengthening internal cohesion, and enhancing its public image. Mrs. Bangura also commended Customs officers for their dedication and resilience, noting that their commitment remains central to the NRA’s mandate.
The event brought together Customs personnel stationed at key operational points across the country, including the Gbalamuya border crossing in Kambia, Jendema border in Pujehun, Queen Elizabeth II Quay, and the Freetown International Airport. These officers play a critical role in revenue mobilization, border control, and trade facilitation.

Speaking on behalf of the Customs Services Department, Commissioner of Customs Tennyson Bio welcomed the initiative, describing the uniforms as more than just attire.
“They are a symbol of pride, unity, and professionalism. It strengthens our identity in the field and enhances our daily interaction with the public,” Bio said.

He added that the introduction of the uniforms would improve staff visibility, reinforce institutional credibility, and deepen public trust in tax and customs administration. According to him, the move aligns with ongoing efforts to project a coordinated and strong institutional presence ahead of the WCO-WCA conference.
As preparations for the regional gathering continue, the NRA reaffirmed its commitment to reforms, effective revenue mobilization, and institutional excellence under the leadership of Commissioner-General Mrs. Jeneba J. Bangura.
