ChildFund Sierra Leone on Wednesday 6th May 2026 donated a 40-foot container of medical supplies to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, in a significant boost aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery across the country, particularly in underserved communities.

The donation, handed over at the Ministry’s headquarters in Freetown, includes essential medicines and medical items valued at an estimated over 2.1 million US dollars. The consignment covers drugs for pregnant women, children, diabetic patients, injectables, and theatre-related medical supplies.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Country Director of ChildFund Sierra Leone Victor Kamara described the Ministry of Health and Sanitation as a long-standing and strategic partner of the organisation.

He said ChildFund continues to work closely with the Ministry because of its critical role in delivering essential services to children, women, and vulnerable communities across the country.

“We are here again because the Ministry of Health is a familiar place for us. As an organisation that prioritises children, we exist to complement government efforts. Over the years and even up to now, we continue to work with the Ministry because it is one of the key institutions providing essential support to children and communities, especially women,” Kamara said.

He explained that the donation was made in response to a request from the Ministry to help address gaps in drug supply.

“We are handing over a 40-foot consignment of drugs after the Ministry requested support sometime ago to address shortages within the system,” he added.

Kamara further disclosed that ChildFund not only provided the medical supplies but also offered financial support to assist with transportation of the drugs to hard-to-reach areas.

He noted that this was not the first major intervention by the organisation, adding that in the last two years alone, ChildFund had delivered even larger consignments to support the health sector.

“Our expectation is that these drugs reach the last mile and the people who need them most, especially those in hard-to-reach communities where access to essential medicines remains a challenge,” he emphasized.

On behalf of the Ministry, Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Clinical Services, Dr. Med Mustapha Kabba, expressed appreciation for what he described as consistent and impactful support from ChildFund.

He noted that the organisation’s assistance goes beyond donations, highlighting its alignment with the Ministry’s priorities.

“The Ministry has always benefited from this kind of support from ChildFund—not just support, but tangible action. We truly appreciate this gesture and the fact that ChildFund works closely with us to understand our priorities and align its interventions accordingly,” Dr. Kabba said.

He further expressed hope that ChildFund would continue its operations in Sierra Leone and expand its capacity-building support to the health sector.

Dr. Kabba also called for a future strategic engagement with ChildFund to better align its five-year plans with the Ministry’s evolving health priorities.

The event concluded with a symbolic handover ceremony, during which the medical supplies were officially received on behalf of the Ministry by Dr. Med Mustapha Kabba.
